The Fixer

The man charged with making the new Abu Dhabi Grand Prix a very special event has been involved with 25 Formula 1 races as promoter, organiser or consultant. A Frenchman of Armenian stock, Philippe Gurdjian has become a close confidant of Bernie Ecclestone over the years, and has forged a role as someone whom Mr E can trust to get a job done. If you have a new Grand Prix project to get off the ground, the chances are that Hermann Tilke will design your track, and Gurdjian will make sure the event actually happens. Gurdjian played a key role in the launches of the Malaysian and Bahrain Grands Prix and, as the recently appointed CEO of Abu Dhabi Motor Sport Management, the sport’s newest race promoter, he is now focused on launching perhaps the most ambitious Formula 1 project ever.
